Researching Your Cruise Ship Options

Each year, a large number of individuals make the decision to book a cruise ship getaway. When it comes to vacationing aboard a cruise ship, you are presented with an unlimited number of options. There are a large number of cruise lines that operate numerous cruise ships. In fact, there are so many cruise ships available that many individuals, maybe even yourself included, do not know where to start.

The first step in planning a cruise ship vacation is making the decision to take one. Traveling aboard a cruise ship can be a fun and exciting experience, but it is not for everyone. Cruises ships often require residing in close corridors for an extend period of time. If you have a difficult time dealing with crowds or you are looking for an overnight vacation, you may want to reexamine your decision to schedule a cruise ship vacation.

If you have already decided that a cruise ship vacation is what you want, you will need to find a cruise ship that interests you. This is where many individuals develop a problem. As previously mentioned, there are a number of different cruise lines. Each of these cruises lines operates a number of different cruise ships. Each cruise ship is likely to travel to different destinations and offer different activities, services, and facilities.

When searching for the perfect cruise ship, you have numerous options. Many travelers automatically start searching for the cruise ship of their dreams. Searching for a cruise ship is, in a way, different than searching for a cruise line. If you do not have a preference as to which cruise ship line you’d like to travel with, it may be easier to search for cruises based on themes, destinations, or onboard activities. A standard internet search is a great way to educate yourself on the cruise ships available.

If you prefer to travel with a specific cruise line, you will want to research that particular cruise line. You can visit the cruise line’s online website to further educate yourself or else you can perform a standard internet search. If you are unaware of the cruise line selection you have, you can easily familiarize yourself. There are a number of travel websites that offer information and links to the websites of popular cruise lines. Performing an internet search with the keywords “cruise lines,” is likely to produce a large number of results.

In your search, it is likely that you will come up with popular cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean, Carnival Cruse Lines, Disney Cruise Lines, Princess Cruises, and much more. Once you are able to view the online website of each cruise line, you can begin to search for cruise ships with reservations still available. When browsing through each cruise ship, you will likely be presented with standard information. This information may outline the activities available onboard, destinations, travel stops, and the cost of reserving a cabin.

The Disney Cruise Line is one of the most well-known and sought after cruise lines for individuals vacationing with a family. If you are interested in scheduling a Disney cruise, you will see that the two cruise ships used are named Disney Wonder and Disney Magic. Each ship has onboard Disney characters and beautiful décor. The main differences between the two ships are the character statues found onboard.

Carnival Cruise Lines is well-known among frequent travelers. They offer a wide range of cruises; however, their main focus seems to be on “fun” cruises. When researching Carnival Cruise Lines, you will see that they have over 20 “fun” ships. These ships target cruise goers who are interested in socializing, partying, and having an adventure over the water. Popular cruise ships include, but are not limited to Fantasy, Ecstasy, Celebration Fascination, and Sensation.

Royal Caribbean is another one of the many well-known cruise lines in the world. They are famous for their international cruises. Just a few of their many cruise ships include Adventure of the Seas, Brilliance of the Seas, Jewel of the Seas, and Navigator of the Seas. With twenty-one cruise ships, you are sure to find what you are looking for with Royal Caribbean

Researching each cruise line and cruise ships, individually, may take time. If you are pressed for time you can seek the assistance of a travel agent. Whichever method of research you select, research is important. It is the best way to find the perfect cruise ship for you and your family.

Online Dating - Holiday Tips

Singles and Holidays don’t always mix. That’s why learning how to survive and thrive during the holiday season is an important thing for singles to learn. Since holidays are marketed for families, singles that are alone are often made to feel like outsiders crashing a party. Talk about the holiday blues!

As Christian single women and men dreading yet another holiday season alone, you’re probably struggling or thinking about:
- Where you’re going to spend the holidays to avoid loneliness
- How unfair it is that another Christmas is coming, and you’re still single
- What you’re going to tell or do to those relatives who ask you again why you’re not yet married.

We all know that Christmas can be tricky when it comes to dating. On the surface; it seems the ideal time to find that special someone, what with office parties, social get-togethers and strategically hung mistletoe (keep it clean lads). Yet Christmas is also a season tarnished by novelty knitted jumpers, Santa socks, loud ties, sparkly bauble earrings and flashing badges (and by flashing we mean lights!) On with the snow, the winter weather is renowned for drying out the skin, so make sure you don't snow on your dream date this Christmas!

Festive cheer... Smile! Remember to keep up your spirits as winter approaches.
New Year's Eve ranks up there as being one of the top three loneliest nights of the year if you are alone, and not by choice. But don't worry -- while it may be a well kept secret -- the truth is, most singles are either home alone or staying in with family. That said, if you are home alone, don't despair, these tips are for you:

- Get your favorite pizza ordered in and commit to a night of DVD movies.
- Phone date. Call your friends from different parts of the country.
- Invite other singles over for a take-in dinner. The truth is you'll probably have more fun with these friends than you would at a big shebang with people you don't know well at all.

But if none of this will make you feel better you have another opportunity:
- Get online! With the growing popularity of online dating, meeting a member of the opposite sex has never been easier. The days when men and women grappled with the problem of finding a date for Saturday night are long gone. Now all you have to do is to spend a few hours online, maybe even less, and you can find a date instantly.

The biggest advantage of online dating is wide choice. How do you normally find a suitable person to date - through friends or family? Somebody known to someone you know. Otherwise, you have to look to date unknown people offline, for example in a club. But that is risky, because you know nothing about each other and the very first encounter is direct.

With online dating, you get a very wide choice. Leaving aside few cheats, you can identify some suitable persons who can be dated by you provided they are ready. You get to know about their profession, likes and dislikes and preferences for a dating partner. That gives you a lot of information about them. With further correspondence, you can find out more. And if you are careful and alert, you should be able to identify liars amongst them. But even after that, you get a much bigger choice. Now you are not dependent only on friends and family, but you can target a lot many totally unknown people who can be dated by you.

According to a yahoo, Personals Survey, 40 percent of single women are asking Santa to bring them someone to marry in the next year, while 38 percent of single men are just hoping to get a hot date for New Year's Eve. More than 1,000 single people from across the country offered insights into their wish lists for holiday party dates, meeting the parents, celebrity mistletoe encounters and more.

Willing to go solo?
While 86 percent of singles are willing to go to a holiday party alone, nearly half (43 percent) admitted that it's sad to be single during the holidays.
Singles in the Midwest are the most likely to stay home if they don't have a date to a holiday party.

Are you feeling down about being single this holiday season and wishing you could just go into suspended animation till January 1st... or make that February 15th? You are not alone, because there are a lot of men online that are waiting to know you better. You will have an absolutely great time and you may find the special one.

What’s the weather like in Mauritius?

Mauritius is one of the most beautiful and accessible island in the world, a real tropical paradise. Mauritius is situated off the east coast of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. This unique geographical position gives to Mauritius a mild and relatively pleasant climate throughout the year. So, what’s the best time to go to Mauritius and what’s the climate variations like?

Mauritius has a fascinating blend of microclimates, all of them fairly mild. While locals complain of ‘cold’ weather during ‘winter’ in Mauritius, the temperature rarely drops below 20 degrees C on the coast. This means you can still have a midnight swim in the sea in Mauritius under a starry sky in the middle of winter. This gives the country a strategic advantage inasmuch as you can visit Mauritius almost anytime of the year.

So when is the best time to visit Mauritius? Well, it depends on what you want to go there for. Excluding peak cyclone season (January and February), December to March are the best months for diving, when the waters are at their clearest; June to August is best for surfing; and October to April is excellent for big game fishing, when the large predators feed close to shore. The Mauritian 'winter' occurs from May to November, when daytime temperatures drop from sticky to balmy. With less rain and humidity, this is one of the nicest times to visit.

The least agreeable period is from December to April, when the long days can prove too hot and humid for some and the threat of cyclones is in the air. If you have to go to Mauritius in the warmer season and you do not particularly like hot days out you can always avoid the sunny beaches. Even when it’s above 30 degrees C on the coast, the towns inland on higher grounds are usually cooler. Curepipe for instance is a town situated on the central plateau, one of the higher regions of Mauritius. The temperature difference between this town and a coastal resort can be significant. The choice is yours. It is obviously more entertaining down the coast and you can always choose an air conditioned room. Keep away from the beaches in the midday sun and venture out on some long romantic walks along the sandy beaches of Mauritius at sunset.

So when is the best time to go to Mauritius? Because there are no extreme climate conditions, except for the rare cyclones that last a few days, you can go pretty much anytime. That of course gives Mauritius a strategic advantage over other tourist destinations. The country and its climate is indeed attracting a increasing number of tourists thus positioning Mauritius on the top lists of world holiday destinations.

How To Have A Great Chicago Shopping Experience

Want to find the latest pair of fashionable Lucky Brand Jeans? Looking for a kitschy Chicago souvenir? Hoping to find that perfect sexy piece of La Perla lingerie or a pair of authentic Ferragamo shoes? Or maybe you are simply in the city to enjoy the ambience of big city shopping and are curious about those one-of-a-kind deals that come with perusing the various Chicago boutiques and State Street retailers.

Whatever the reason, you've definitely made the right decision to visit Chicago, a world-class destination for shopping. The city's "Magnificent Mile" area boasts of diverse retailers, four multi-level malls anchored by classic department stores such as Bloomingdales and Nordstrom, exceptional dining experiences, and extraordinary hotel accommodations. "Oak and Rush" streets feature a refreshing mixture of couture shops and high-end boutiques with prestigious brand names like Kate and Jack Spade, Jimmy Choo, Prada, and Hermes (just to name a few!). Not to be outdone, the center of Chicago neighborhoods, "State Street", offers various specialty retailers for those shoppers looking for a bit more affordable shopping experience.

There are many other shopping excursions to venture out on while you are in Chicago. Don't just stay downtown. Live a little and take a quick taxi ride or El ride into one of the many Chicago neighborhoods and shop with the locals. If you are a hip designer conscious shopper who absolutely adores trendy, vintage, and/or alternative digs, then the Bucktown and Wicker Park boutique circuit is a must do! Casa de Soul, Eurotrash, Scoop NYC, and The Silver Room are just a few of the stops along the way. Lakeview has its shopping highlights as well. Gramaphone Records carries vinyl copies of rare and imported dance, rap, and various commercial records. Century Shopping Center is your typical mall that went through a recent renovation in 1999, however, the best feature is its fine arts theater that shows various independent films on seven screens. Boystown (which is East Lakeview) primarily caters to gay men and the area features many themed shops. Oh, and if you're in for a day trip, Chicago (well suburban Schaumburg and Boilingbrook) has two IKEA locations!

Chicago shopping has a lot to offer! Unfortunately, you just can't do it all in one day. In an effort to have a more pleasurable experience, please take in consideration the following:

1. How many dedicated shopping days do you have?
2. What is your shopping objective?
3. What is your shopping budget?
4. Are you going solo or are you shopping with friends, family, or even children?
5. Transportation? Parking is not cheap even if you do find a meter! Public transportation or taxi, if your budget allows, is better for the serious shopper.
6. Where is your hotel located?
7. Eating out or packing a lunch?
8. You absolutely must have comfortable shoes! There will be a lot of walking involved.

So, hit the sidewalks, be brave, fight those crowds, and find what you're looking for…right in Chicago.

Travel And The Cell Phone

The cell phone (telefone celular) is created to make the world open up to the user; to enable them to be on the move yet in contact with the rest of the world. The modern person travels more than ever, both for business and pleasure, and so the cell phone has become an essential rather than an important tool in modern day living.

Cell phones were initially created so that people could roam within regions, and then they advanced to nationwide. Now it enables the modern user to connect to people all over the world.

If you are travelling with your cell phone (telefone celular) to another country than where you reside, make sure that it will be compatible. Although devices bought in Europe are compatible throughout that continent, American models use a different frequency band. The best way to ensure that your device will be of use, purchase one with a tri-band frequency. This will enable your device to pick up reception anywhere in the world that is serviced for cell phone use. This applies also if choosing to buy a cell phone (telefone celular) whilst abroad. A tri-band frequency will ensure that it works once you have returned home.

To use your cell phone (telefone celular) abroad, the roaming network needs to be activated, and this can be done by contacting your network provider. The cell phone (telefone celular) is equipped with everything needed for roaming. The rates are usually much higher than the standard rate, but networks are beginning to do packages for the frequent traveller. Rates differ from with service provider, and so contact them for up to the minute information and advice.

The modern cell phone (telefone celular) also has built in camera and picture messaging facilities which are a great feature for the holiday maker. Although they tend to have little memory, up to 2 or more gigabyte memory cards can be purchased to be able to store more information. The pictures can then be transferred to the home computer upon return. The use of a memory card makes this particularly simple; just make sure that it is compatible with your computer. To stay in contact with friends and family in a more personal way, these pictures can be sent to any compatible cell phone through multi media messages. This is a particularly good feature for long term and frequent travellers. The feature usually has to be activated specifically for a roaming network, so make sure that you do this before you leave.

Internet usage is a great feature of the modern cell phone (telefone celular). However, most devices are set up to use certain networks only and the compatibility can be poor or non existent when abroad. The best way to determine whether you can use this feature is to contact your cell phone service provider. Determine the rates also; internet usage is usually charged per the amount of information downloaded, rather than the amount of time the facility is used. If you are able to use the internet feature, then consider the advantages and disadvantages, especially with a GPSR phone; the battery will run down very quickly unless the always on feature is disabled.

A modern feature that may be important to the travelling cell phone (telefone celular) user is the flight safe mode. This enables users to use it to listen to music without having to switch the cell phone on, which prevents interference with aircraft technology. Note that the battery will run down much more quickly when roaming as the cell phone (telefone celular) is constantly searching for signals and changing networks. Always make sure you have your device recharger with you.

Tour to asian today

At the present, tourism in Asia has attracted much attention from the rest of the world, however, a considerable amount of information search and background knowledge in torism which is focused on nature and native cultures should be acquired before a visit can be planned. This is because different destinations offer unique characteristics. For example, popular destinations for cultural tourism include Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar while Singapore, Hongkong, Japan and China are popular for urban activities including shopping. For religious cultures, attractive destinations are Nepal and India. However, beautiful natural tourism sites can be found throughout Asia. These include beaches and mountains.

Apart from numerous attractions that tourism in Asia can offer, the costs of travelling are also considered to be low. This include cost of flight to your country of destination, transportaation within the country, and package tours. Therefore, tourism destinations within Asia are definitely attractive and indispensible choices.

Bangkok's Khao San road – bohemian bastion or lively rendezvous point?

Whatever category you fall into, there’s no denying that this is a lively place; a street with an electric atmosphere provided by the buzz of experience-hungry backpacking travellers united by their shared goals and plans and by the common clothing combinations considered de rigueur by many.

It is fair to say that Bangkok’s Khao San road is a haven for hippy-types, bohemian characters and backpacking tourists, but this does not mean that it only has something to offer those of that ilk. Indeed, the cheap accommodation, food and drink as well as the large selection of both essential and leisure products is of appeal to a much wider audience. Those visitors happy to mingle with the alternative crowd and the clichés that surround them can take away plenty from a stay or visit at this most famous of streets.

Khao San road’s fame, or infamy, is global and there are few travel-oriented characters around the world that are not aware of what this road is all about and its leanings towards those of particular subcultures. Its reputation ensures that backpackers and travellers of specific persuasions continue to flock here and business owners continue to tailor their good and services to the needs of this community.

The street’s role as a provider of cheap accommodation arose during the city’s 1982 bicentennial anniversary celebrations, during which time foreign visitors were unable to find hotel rooms and resorted to paying locals for rooms in their houses for the night. Since that time, Khao San road Bangkok has done everything it can to nurture its position as a mecca for those travelling around Southeast Asia on a shoestring and has taken on a cheap carnival-like environment.

Besides cheap accommodation, Bangkok’s Khao San road serves a number of other useful purposes for those who frequent it, one of the most important of which is providing a centre at which travellers can meet, either as a rendezvous point for those already acquainted or as an environment which fosters new friendships.

Secondly, the street dulls the potential for culture shock by offering visitors a gentle introduction to Thailand and its idiosyncrasies. The street’s Thai-western mix is an agreeable blend for those having never ventured beyond Europe or North America. Thai food in restaurants is tailored to suit foreign palates, western beer brands are available in bars and décor in either type of establishment is hardly typical of the east.

Thirdly, Khao San road Bangkok offers backpackers everything they need to plan, organise and execute their onward travel agendas, be it trips around Thailand only or the famous Southeast Asian circuit. Independent travel agents and the booking desks of almost every guesthouse and hotel in the area are well equipped to offer the gamut of travel related services aimed at backpacking holidaymakers.

Should you wish to find fault with Khao San road, then it would not be that difficult, with opportunities to criticise at almost every level. However, why bother? If the street’s eclectic mix of Thai and western restaurants, purveyors of fake designer goods, bookshops, travel agents and abundance of care-free, thong-footed individuals is not your thing, then steer well clear and leave it to those for whom it is.

Oregon whale watching can be done from the shore or can be experienced on a boat in the open water. An experienced guide can often direct you to likely spots and increase your chances of viewing whales. Whale watching can also provide you with the opportunity of view other types of aquatic wildlife that you wouldn’t often have the chance to see. Boat tours and lake guides are available to travel out onto the lake during the summer months. Crater lake is surrounded by an extensive amount of hiking trails and rock formations suitable for climbing. Although Crater Lake is over seven thousand years old it was “officially” discovered by white settlers in 1853. The three men who discovered it were prospecting for gold along the Oregon coast. Choosing Good Quality Travel Luggage

Would you like to find out what those-in-the-know have to say about my appreciation towards using travel luggage Samsonite brand? The information in the article below comes from my own experience about using this brand for a while and I just want to share with you all. The information about this brand presented here will do one of two things: either it will reinforce what you know about interest to use buy it or it will teach you something new. Both are good outcomes. The following article is not the promotional of product at all but I just would like to share good experience and I want you to have the same.

It can be said that in the travel luggage market today, consumers get the most advantage from the market competitiveness. Many of travel luggage providers launched massive of product designs and colors as well as ranges of price which you can afford. Some of you may have perception that this brand is always expensive but in fact they have a variety of prices which affordable in the same time they remain to have good quality as always. Apart from affordable price, the quality of this product is recognized widely of its durable material and light weight. I can guarantee that you will fell that the one you bought is never expensive if compare to its quality.

For someone who may have a little money to support expensive travel luggage. I also encourage you to invest with this brand. Comparing to buy only one best quality even though it is a bit expensive, but imagine that if you buy other brand every time you want to travel due to the lower quality than Samsonite. Frankly speaking, you may have to spend even more money than buying god quality one, so you should take this into account. Therefore, an effective price compare between brands is really needed in order to help you choosing travel luggage that has good quality and affordable price.

Apart from designs and colours that you may choose for your personal need, you have to consider other factor such as resistance to scratch, pressure and chemicals. This is because you may have seen how your travel luggage is transferred and care in the airport, especially if they are treated by airline staffs or even yourself. Therefore, it is compulsory that you have to bring all kind of factors to consider when you have to choose travel luggage, not only design and colours. The considerable time that one good quality luggage should last is about 3-4 years, but it can be sure that Samsonite can give you longer usage than that. Due to its world wide reputation, Samsonite is one of the top brands of travel and other kind of luggage with great customer support. Not only good quality luggage you will get from its product but also excellent customer service, especially after sale service. The company has warranty for every single luggage that they sell so you can make sire that you will get maximum customer service as well as good quality of products.

Once you have got some of my appreciation towards using this brand, you begin to realize that there's more benefits than you think. The day will come when you can use something you read about here to have a beneficial impact. Then you'll be glad you took the time to learn more about it.

A Vacation In The Making With Flyer Miles Rewards

Frequent flyer credit cards are, in my own opinion, the flashiest of all rewards programs. It sends the message: 'I'm so dang cool my credit card company flies me places for nothing! Ha! And all your company gave you was a spice grinder and new blender! I scoff at you, peasant!'

Alright, well, maybe not exactly that, but you know what I mean. Frequent flyer cards are the rulers of reward offers, the sultans of specialty cards, the Cadillacs of the credit cards. If you know something better than being handed a vacation for spending with a credit card, please e-mail me and tell me because it seems like a pretty sweet deal from where I'm sitting.

They work very much like other reward offering cards. There is a ratio of dollars spent to frequent flyer miles acquired, which is different for nearly every card. The miles can be redeemed with an airline and also, depending on the card, a hotel chain, a rental car agency, or a cruise line. Frequent flyer cards also vary in partners, so if you are particular about who you fly with or where you stay, research before you apply.

Some examples of the various frequent flyer cards out there are:

The Chase Travel Plus Platinum Visa Card. This card offers a ratio of one mile earned for each dollar spent. Its miles are usable for plane tickets, rental cars, hotel rooms, and cruises. The miles can also be used with 250 different airlines, without any restrictions. For all of these rewards, the card does come with a $29 annual fee.

Blue Sky from American Express. This annual-fee-free card also gives members the choice of air, road, sea, or bed and features one-mile-per-dollar-spent ratio. A potential customer can also select any airline, hotel, car rental agency, or cruise line to redeem their points with. Card holders also receive benefits ranging from personal health insurance while traveling to the guarantee that any purchase a customer wishes to return - if the merchant will not take it back you will be reimbursed up to $300 per item by American Express. If you plan to go on a vacation at any point in your life, these are good things to have.

The Miles Card from Discover Card. Of all the frequent flyer cards I have researched, I would personally choose this card. With a one-to-one mile-to-dollar reward ratio, no annual fee, the lowest regular APR I found (10.99%, and, oh yeah, that's after a full year of 0%), it is a pretty lucrative card. Of course that is neglecting the 12 thousand bonus miles one receives upon approved application, as well as the one thousand bonus miles each month you make a purchase, for the first year.

If you're not a believer in the beauty of frequent flyer cards after all that, I just don't know what to say at this point. Well, actually, I'd like to say that you're going to have to spend a lot more than the savvy frequent flyer card crowd if you want to get off your own little plot of land.

Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Australian Visas

In the modern world there are few things governments protect more fiercely than the security of their borders. Australia is no different. As such, there seem to be a countless number of different visas, each appropriate to only a very specific set of reasons for visiting Australia. It is all too easy to become lost in the paperwork and jargon. This article aims to clear the metaphorical fog and explain exactly what visa you require for your particular trip to Australia.

Perhaps one of the simplest travel visas available is the ETA tourist visa. ETA stands for Electronic Travel Authority and represents the fact that this visa no longer takes the form of a stamp in your passport. Instead, if approved, the authorisation is stored electronically against your passport number. The only requirement set for those applying for a tourist visa is that they hold a passport in one of the thirty-four approved countries. However, do not assume that just because you meet this requirement you will then automatically qualify for a visa, this is simply not the case. Therefore, it is recommended that you do not book flights until your visa has been approved, this ensures that you will not be disappointed. The tourist visa is valid for a period of twelve months and allows you to travel to Australia multiple times with each stay lasting no longer than three months. It is possible to study in Australia using this visa on the condition that the course lasts no longer than the maximum period of stay (i.e. 3 months).

Another very popular type of Australian travel visa is the working holiday visa. To satisfy the requirements for this applicants must; be aged between 18 and 30 years olds, hold a valid passport in an approved country, hold a return ticket or be able to prove that you have sufficient funds to purchase one and to cover the initial part of your stay, have no children and be visiting Australia with the intention of travelling rather than for economic or educational reasons. If you are issued a working holiday visa then you will be entitled to stay in Australia for a period of twelve months and undertake temporary employment. The key restriction here is that visa-holders may not work for any one employer for a period of greater than three months. This limitation has been put in place to ensure that visitors do not become too settled in one location; tourism should be the primary motivation for the visit. Studying is permitted on this visa with a maximum course duration of four months. If you wish to study in Australia for a period greater than four months then you will require a student visa. To qualify for such a visa you have to have gained an offer of a place at an Australian college or other educational institution.

Finally, if you wish to visit Australia as a tourist for longer than 3 months but do not wish to seek temporary employment then you will require a long stay visa. The conditions of acceptance for this visa are less stringent than that for the working holiday visa.

Serengeti - One Of The Most Exhilarating Natural Spectacles On Earth

When the skies finally clear, and the plains once again assume their scorched, golden hues and the grasses become crisp and crackle underfoot, the whole of the Serengeti seems to take to the road.

Every year, around April as the last drops of rain dry up, millions of hooves thunder across the Mara River on their way some 500 miles northwards to the hills in search of food and water as the dry season begins, followed by the Maasai warriors herding their cattle at their own loping pace. And then around October, the million-strong herd of Wildebeest flows south once again towards the endless plains that will soon become carpeted green with wild flowers as the rains bring the burnt lands back to life.

The famous wildlife migration, which continues its annual cycle through the Serengeti region of Tanzania and the Maasai Mara in Kenya, is without doubt one of the most exhilarating natural spectacles on Earth.

Nevertheless, there's so much more to the Serengeti than the Great Migration. A trip here is to venture into one of the oldest ecosystems on the planet - the essential features of climate, vegetation and fauna have barely changed in the past million years.

Today, you'll still find the rolling grassland, acacia woodlands, and mist-draped volcanic highlands that impressed the American hunter, Stewart Edward White, when he set out from Nairobi in 1913, into lands still little explored by the white man. Pushing south, he recorded: "We walked for miles over burnt out country... Then I saw the green trees of the river, walked two miles more and found myself in paradise."

Every time of year in the Serengeti offers something different, something special - there's always the chance to see a wide range of animals in their natural habitat, set amid a backdrop of fiery sunsets and endless dramatic landscapes.

The Serengeti region encompasses various national parks and game reserves in Tanzania including the Serengeti National Park, Maswa Game Reserve, and the spectacular Ngorongoro crater, as well as the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya.

Stretching almost 12,000 square miles north to Kenya and west to the huge Lake Victoria, the Serengeti National Park, Tanzania's oldest park, offers arguably the best game viewing in the whole of Africa. The unique combination of diverse habitats enables it to support more than 30 species of large herbivores, many magnificent predators and nearly 500 species of birds; from the great and ungainly ostrich to the majestic black eagle soaring over the Lobo Hills in the remote north.

For many who head out on safari, the goal is the "Big Five," named for the five most prized trophies taken by hunters: lions, leopards, elephants, rhinoceroses and buffalo. But in this wildlife haven, you may simply enjoy the unforgettable sight of a harem of impala grazing through the tall grasses, accompanied by a single buck, or a troop of baboons sitting lazily in a tree.

Whatever your favourite animal may be, a safari, or "journey" in Tanzania's native tongue, Swahili, will undoubtedly offer you adventure, extraordinary new experiences and fill your head with a lifetime of vivid memories of great herds of buffalo, zebras, giraffes, and elegantly prancing gazelles that you'll discover on bushwalks and game drives through the Serengeti region.
