Sculptures With Art Of Love And Passion:Khajuraho Temples

Situated in the heart of Central India, Khajuraho is a temple town different from any other temple city of India. It is not about religion, worshipping and deities, instead temples in this fascinating village are famous for the eroticism etched on its walls in the form of sculptures. There are so many theories and controversies over eroticism depicted on the outer walls of temples in Khajuraho.

According to a legend, the creators of Khajuraho had descented from the moon. The story of the origin of this great dynasty is interesting. A beautiful young daughter of a Brahmin priest was seduced by the moon god while she was bathing in the Rati one evening. Her name was Hemavati. The son born of this union between a mortal and a god was a son was named Chandravarman. Harassed by society, the unwed mother sought refuge in the dense forest of Central India where she was both mother and guru to her young son. This boy of Hemavati and moon grew up to found the great Chandela dynasty. When he was established as a ruler, he had this dream one night in which his mother implored him to build temples that would reveal human passions, and in doing so bring about a realization of the emptiness of human desire. Chandravarman began the construction of the first of the temples, successive rulers added to the fast growing complex.

Few scholars believe that the Chandelas were believers in the powers of Tantrism; the cult which believes that the gratification of earthly desires is a step closer to the attainment of the infinite. Yet another theory justifies the erotica of Khajuraho, claiming it had a specific purpose. According to this theory, in those days boys lived in hermitages, following the Hindu law of being "brahmacharis" until they attained manhood. Therfore, the only way they could prepare themselves for the worldly role of 'householder' was through the study of these sculptures and the earthly passions they depicted.

However, few Hindu scholars emphasise that the erotic sculptures are present only on the outer walls of the temples and not inside, which according to them means that one should leave all his/her worldly desires outside before entering the place of worship.

History

Built between AD950 and 1050 by the Chandela dynasty, temples of Khajuraho is the evidences of the architectural geniuses during the times of Chandela dynasty. The 85 temples were built in North Indian 'Nagara' style of architecture, though only 20 of them have survived the rough weather conditions over long years of time. The two richer distinctive groups of temples are the Western and Eastern group of temples. With hardly any written records and rare references to its origin, the history of Khajuraho has become trapped in the mythical folklore of the region. According to the Myths Khajuraho was known as 'Khajur-vahika' or 'Khajjurpura' in the ancient times because of its golden date palms (known as 'khajur') that lined the gates of this city.

Temples

Khajuraho is surrounded by 22 temples, which give us a glimpse of a golden time of art and devotion at their peak.Out of 22 temples, two were made from sandstone. The stone blocks were first carved and then the interlocking pieces were assembled to form a temple. Each temple is different from one another. The temples are grouped into three geographical divisions : western, eastern and southern.

Western Group of Temples:
Lakhmi Temple
The Kandariya Mahadeo Temple
Devi Jagdamba Temple
Chitragupta Temple
Viswanath Temple

Eastern Group of Temples:
Parsvanath Temple
Ghantai Temple
Brahma Temple
Vamana Temple
Javari Temple

Southern Group of Temples:
Dulhadev Temple
Beejamandal Temple

Khajuraho temples were discovered accidentally by a British military adventurer in 1838. Built between AD950 and 1050 by the Chandela dynasty, the temples by the end of the 15th century were abandoned, hidden deep within thick jungle.

Enjoying An Australian Tour

Going on an Australian tour can include anything from wandering the tropical rainforests of northern Australia, to taking in the night life in the capital city of Sydney. Whether your penchant is for lush and untouched scenery or fine wine and entertainment, Australia is sure to have something to offer you.

If you're interested in treasures of the urban nature, Sydney is home to eclectic architecture, major art galleries, and more than one performing arts theater, as well as several fine dining establishment choices. During your Australian tour of the settled delights be sure to stop by Melbourne, a city known as a trend-setter and home to grand musical extravaganzas, non-stop food and film festivals, and some of the best shopping and nightlife to be found. There are more than 75 different ethnic cuisines just waiting to tickle your taste buds in several hundred restaurants and cafés. If you're a sports fan, Melbourne hosts international tournaments as well as grand prix events in various locations around the city.

Visiting the secluded islands in the Great Barrier Reef can provide a new and fresh look at nature's beauty. While on your tour of Australia, be sure to take a peek at the Daintree Rainforest in tropical North Queensland. There you can see the rare sight of two World Heritage wonders nestled right against one another as the forest slopes dip into the Great Barrier Reef, with some sections of the reef growing almost to the shore itself. Following the same natural beauty guide you can opt to head into the expansive Outback and explore the treasures of the Kimberley, sometimes called Australia's last frontier.

Taking Time to Relax

Beginning or ending your Australian tour at one of a multitude of resorts the country has to offer can ensure a relaxing evening or two is had with some of the most beautiful scenery. The resorts located well inside the Great Barrier Reef can cater to just about anyone - from newlyweds, to families or singles, or even sophisticates who demand the utmost in dining and beauty spas available.

Of course, Australia is surrounded by sea, so good swimming and surfing beaches are more rule than exception. Generally these beaches will be full of tourists, especially during the week. Still, it is easy to find your "spot" for the R&R that you demand and rightfully deserve.

If relaxing on your Australian tour calls for a cruise, that can be arranged too. Several options are available depending on your level of sailing skill and budget. For the couple that doesn't want an entire boat to themselves, a catered cruise through the Whitesundays might be just the answer. These cruises usually run from five to seven days and can be had on modern racing yachts or older square-riggers with a multitude of sails billowing overhead. Passengers can usually opt to sleep in cabins on-board or set up camp on the beach at night. Either way you're sure to be lulled to sleep by the gentle wash of the waves against the hull or shore.

A Tour for Learning

If the goal of your tour of Australia is knowledge, you should look into an Aboriginal-lead tour. Aboriginal guides are available at many places you can visit during your Australian tour, and during the course of your tour you will likely hear creation stories that have been handed down thousands of years. Guides are often accompanied by experienced translators, allowing them to speak their traditional language. The Aboriginal people vary depending on their location; the people of the islands and coasts having differing traditions then those of the expansive Outback.

While on an Aboriginal-guided tour of Australia you should be sure to try bush tucker by either taking one of the widely available tours focusing the food itself and its preparation, or stopping by an Aboriginal cultural festival. Bush tucker, as it's now called, is the food that sustained Australia's original people for thousands of years and has now gone mainstream as Australian chefs experiment with the unique recipes. All in all, there is so much to take in on an Australia tour that you could easily spend months there letting yourself get lost in the rich history and culture of this beautiful and historical land.

Know All About Rome: A Travelers Guide To Rome

The city of Rome is very impressive mostly because of the antique structures it has. It also has a great history attached with it. Rome was ranked at number 2 position in the 2004 Readers Choice Awards for the Top 10 European Cities (for Conde Nast Traveler). It was behind Florence only.

Rome is dry and hot in summers and rainy in winters. The city has a population of 2.7 million. You need to have a passport to visit Rome, as it is for most of the Italian countries. But you do not have to worry about the visa if your stay is not more than 90 days. You should visit Rome during the off-season that is from October to March. There are too many tourists during the summer months. Try to get accommodation into hotels near the historic district or the centro storico. Hotel de Russie is the situated perfectly between the Spanish Steps and the Piazza del Popolo. This way you will get to visit these places first and then move on to visit other places of interest.

You should explore Rome on your own. You should make a list of the sites you intend to visit. This will make traveling a lot easier for you. It will also help you save time. Private guided tours are also a good option. You can get the bookings done from your hotel only. You can also opt for the TramBus system. It is cheap and good. This bus system takes you to all the beautiful places in and around Rome.

Different people visit different places in Rome however there are certain sites which one should never miss. The Coliseum is the most popular structure in the city. You must visit this place. You can either look around it on your own or go for guides who are part of the conducted tours. The guides dress up as gladiators. The time when these tours are conducted are not fixed so you should call earlier and inquire about them.

After Coliseum the place to visit should be The Roman Forum or Foro Romano. This place has significant historical importance as it was the civic center of old age Rome. This was the place where all the significant activities took place be it political, religious or anything else. Even after 2000 years, its structures depict the Roman architecture in the true sense. There is no entry fee for visiting this place. It opens at 9 in the morning and closes 1 hour before the sun sets. Paid audio and guided tours are also available.

The Pantheon is a very old structure, around 1,800 years old. However the structure is still intact. This structure was built around 125 A.D. the word Pantheon literally means temple to all gods and it was built by Emperor Hadrian. It has got a huge 9 meter opening. That is the only source of light here. Some famous people like Vittorio Emmanuel II, Renaissance painter Raphael, Umberto I and two Kings of Italy are buried here. The building has remains of so many civilizations. You can know a lot about Roman civilization from here. You can learn about their sculpture, clothing, woodwork, language and many other things. You can actually learn about their thoughts also. There is no entry fee for The Pantheon. It is open for visitors throughout the week. It is closed on all holidays excluding Christmas.

You can visit all the listed placed in Rome in a single day. After this, you can spend a 3 hours at The Vatican. Here you can find huge collections of books, paintings, sculptures and many other things related to the history of the Catholic Church. But this time is not sufficient to examine each and every piece out there. You can not go through the entire Vatican collection at one go. In St. Peters you can have a look at Michelangelos Pieta. Then there is the magnificent Vatican Museum where some great antiques are placed.

There are also some Egyptian mummies here. However one place which you must visit is the Sistine Chapel. Michelangelo was a great sculptor and Pope Julius II asked him to paint the bible on Sistine Chapels ceiling. However his aim to embarrass Michelangelo wasnt fulfilled as Sistine Chapel went on to become one of the greatest pieces of art from the Renaissance period. The schedules here arent that regular so you should inquire about it well in advance.

Cafes and restaurants are there almost everywhere in Rome so there is no problem in finding them when you are feeling hungry. For traveling, wear comfortable dress and shoes. Do not carry too much luggage with you. To know all the things you need to do and need to visit, consult the hotel concierge or some other tourist information.

Fireflies And Phospherence

Around midnight. Almost silent, apart from the semi-sibilant rustling of the leaves. And dark, profoundly, pitch-black, cannot see a finger one centimetre in front of own your nose, dark.

Waiting. But for what? Then, a slight whisper filters back from the front of the line. Look down! And with the total removal of light for the last few moments meaning that our eyes are as accustomed as they will ever be to the darkness, we can just about make it out. A faint luminescent glow from the leaves carpeting the forest floor.

Which our guide tells us, when the torches are eventually switched back on and we can see again, is how the true Orang Asli (the "original people") of the forest of Malaysia's Endau Rompin National Park can track and hunt wild animals through the dense tropical jungle at night without getting lost - by following the trail of light from fallen leaves that manage to retain the tiniest shard of luminescence from the long departed sunshine of the day.

Incidentally, just before being told to look down, both me and my four year old son (to whom I was clinging on VERY tightly) had actually been looking up, following the tracer patterns of the hundreds of fireflies that flitted and pirouetted in flight around our heads.

Our night trek was part of a weekend spent at Kampung Peta, in the middle of the Endau Rompin Park, situated on the border of the states of Johor and Pahang. About two and a half hours drive from Johor Bahru, the southern city at the very tip of Malaysia, the settlement, which is in the middle of the forest and high above the river that actually forms the state border, is something of a schizophrenic entity.

On one hand, we have the land belonging to the National Park itself, on which are built several reasonably appointed and maintained chalets. Just to take one step onto the land owned by the National Park means that you have "entered" the park and therefore incurs a visitor’s fee.

Then, on the other hand, about one kilometre closer to the river is the actual Orang Asli settlement itself, which could not be more different to the visitor’s area if it tried.

Take electricity, for example. The tourist chalets and the visitors centre have power when the generator is turned on from around 6pm to 8am the next day. The Orang Asli settlement has no power at any time, and with the nearest town being some 50 kilometres away, there is not much reflected light lingering in the sky either. Which does, of course, mean that you can see every single star in the sky, as well as those ubiquitous fireflies, which is a rare treat for us city dwellers.

It is possible to arrange a trip like ours by making arrangements with the National Park authorities themselves. However, one of the more resourceful members of our group had managed to establish contact with a city dwelling member of one of the Orang Asli families living by the river, and had arranged that his family would put the whole trip together for us. And what a fantastic job they did of it!

First, the food that the family served us at every meal was stunning - simple but absolutely delicious and more than plentiful. For example, on our Saturday lunchtime arrival, we were served snake head fish caught from the river, and gently broiled to perfection (remember, without electricity). Never tried snake head fish before, and I dare say that, under normal circumstances, the name may well have ensured that I would never try it, but I'm awful glad that I did.

We were shown lots of traditional methods of catching food from the forest, ranging from small wire traps for snaring birds, to cages with wire triggered drop down doors for trapping tigers. We even had a chance to test our accuracy with a traditional blow pipe, which the ten children in the group loved, of course. Incidentally, we were told that traditional "professional" Orang Asli hunters can use such a blowpipe to fire a poisoned dart a stunning 200 meters, apparently with a high degree of accuracy, which I suppose might be quite useful if you have an angry tiger 195 meters away!.

At night, the hardier souls in our group actually stayed with the family in their tiny undecorated concrete breeze block house; everyone sleeping together on the floor in one relatively small room with what seemed like hundreds of village children, some of whom I was later informed were nothing to do with the household at all, and were presumably only there to see what the foreigners did whilst they were asleep!

The more cowardly amongst us (including yours truly) opted for the chalets.

Well, I did forget to mention that the family house had no indoor plumbing either, and that the toilet was a hole in the ground some 50 meters away. Please also bear in mind that this is in the middle of the jungle at night, that the nearest civilization and medical facilities are at least 90 minutes away, and that most of the more dangerous wildlife (tigers, elephants, and wild boars) in these parts are nocturnal! There are simply some things that you do not need to do with two small children in tow, and, anyway, I'd already done one night trek, and had got the leech induced bleeding to prove it!

Next day brought a leisurely motor boat ride down the river, a trek on a jungle pathway dotted with elephant tracks (and droppings), a swim in the river, lunch, and then a far less leisurely row back up river, before a final meal and the drive home.

So, all in all, a very interesting and rewarding adventure weekend, definitely not a run of the mill overnight break, and a chance to actually meet and “live with” some of the real indigenous people of Malaysia (albeit extremely temporarily), still existing pretty much the way that they have for decades, maybe even centuries, far removed from the demands, stresses and strains of the modern world.

York - Guide to the City

York was once the capital of the country, and boasts a breathtaking history and wealth of restored medieval buildings and streets. The city gave its name to the county in which it resides, and is home to 13,000 people.

But York is much more than a beautiful, ancient city, and is home to a vibrant cafe culture and array of fine dining restaurants. The shopping facilities are plentiful, and there are more independent retailers represented here than in any other modern city in the country. The city even boasts a busy nightlife, with a wide selection of pubs, clubs and live music venues.

York's creative spaces and venues are another good reason to visit, and the art installations housed in St Mary's Church are a unique tourist attraction in themselves.

With dozens of museums, sporting venues and restaurants, hundreds of shops, and quality hotels and B'n'Bs on every street, York attracts thousands of tourists every year and rewards every one of them!

History
The ancient city of York has a more exciting history than any other area of the UK. The city was founded in AD71, and was the site of Constantine the Great's coronation as Roman Emperor. The city's decline in importance during the Industrial Revolution meant that ancient buildings were not raised to make room for factories and mills, and an abundance of medieval structures still exist today.

The Jorvik Museum is one of fifty museums and heritage centres in the city, and explores the Viking history of the area. Viking streets have been reconstructed for an underground tour, and there are masses of archaeological finds and exhibits.

The National Railway Museum, The Castle Museum, The York Dungeon and The Richard III Museum are just some of the others.

The city is also home to the largest Gothic church in the country, a thirteenth century church and numerous other medieval ruins.

Art Galleries

York Art Gallery is home to oil and canvas artwork, watercolours and ceramics from the fourteenth century to the present day. The collection is separated into six themed areas: Morality, Devotion, Places, People, Stories and Modern Aproaches; and there are regular temporary exhibitions.

York St Mary's is a desanctified medieval church that is used to house a different art installation each year. The installations are inspired by the building, and each adds something different to its ambience. The installation for 2007 will explore the relationship between the viewer, the artist and the natural world, and is being developed by Keiko Mukaide.

The Artspace is a studio and art gallery, with new exhibitions every six weeks.

Theatres

The Grand Opera House is an elegant, restored, nineteenth century building, hosting performances of drama, dance, comedy and music. The theatre is said to be the largest in Yorkshire.

The York Theatre Royal seats almost 1000 people and presents a programme of drama, comedy, musicals, live music and stand-up comedy. The theatre is currently being renovated but is still open for business.

Friargate Theatre is home to a Christian theatre company, and regularly showcases small-scale touring productions.

Restaurants

The Biltmore Bar and Grill is located in a desanctified church, serves grills and drinks in its bistro, and traditional dishes on its mezzanine. The interior is modern and chic, and prices are a little above the average.

Rarity offers meat and fish dishes, and a wide selection of red, white and rose wines, champagnes and vintage ports.

The Mogul has received glowing reviews from customers and critics for its Bengali cuisine and warm atmosphere. The restaurant has been trading for fourteen years, and offers a catering service.

For high quality Italian food in traditional, upmarket surroundings, and with a view of York Minster, La Vecchia Scuola is the ideal choice.

Pubs/Bars

York is known for an abundance of pubs, and many are interesting historical buildings. Ye Old Starre Inn has a tenth century cellar and numerous ghost stories. The pub trades in a range of beers and ales, with regularly alternating guest beers.

The Lighthorseman is a bar and 4* B'n'B, which is apparently the single remaining Victorian bar in the city. Real ale, food and bar snacks are available.

CAMRA awarded the eighteenth century, The Blue Bell Inn, an award for its 'outstanding pub interior', including restored nineteenth century fixtures and fittings.

Montey's Rock Café is a rock-themed bar; and Harkers is a nineteenth century ex-bank, popular with young and old professionals.

Nightclubs

The Gallery presents pop and party anthems, hip-hop and r'n'b, soul, funk, indie and rock'n'roll seven nights a week. The club comprises four areas and a food stand.

Ziggy's is the city's main alternative club, and popular with students. Drinks are cheap and the dress code is smart-casual. Music is largely nu-metal, indie and rock, and there are 70s and 80s nights.

Toffs comprises a large, open dancefloor in one room, and a cafe-bar in the other, with York's largest VIP lounge upstairs. Music is mostly chart, party and drum'n'bass.

Fibbers is a cafe, restaurant, bar, nightclub and music shop, with live music every night.

Shopping

York city centre is a pedestrianised network of backstreets, cobbled walkways and medieval streets, lined with curiosity shops and unique stores. Coppergate is the place to find the major high street chains, and Swinegate is home to designer boutiques and restaurants.

Monk's Cross is the city's newest shopping centre, and comprises all the leading retailers, an interactive play feature for children and 1000 free parking spaces. Clifton Moor Shopping Centre is home to 34 stores and 3000 parking spaces.

The McArthur Glen Designer Outlet trades in surplus stock, and designer goods retail at 50-75% of the RRP. Current retailers include Dolce and Gabbana, Paul Smith and Armani.

Manchester is world renowned as the first industrialised city in the world, but the city also boasts an important cultural and musical heritage. The city's role in showcasing innovative punk bands in the 70s, and underground music in the 80s, cemented Manchester's reputation as a modern and vibrant area.

The city's nightlife, restaurants and cultural facilities rival those of the capital city, and the shopping facilities are unparalleled. Millions of pounds of regeneration funding have flooded in since the IRA bomb of 1996, and the city developed world-class sporting facilities for the 2002 Commonwealth Games.

Manchester's continued rise in importance is evidenced by the new Beetham Tower, the tallest residential building in the UK, and 'B of the Bang', the tallest sculpture in Britain.

Restaurants

110 Restaurant is a popular, fine dining establishment, located inside a casino and serving British and European cuisine until 1am. The bar and gaming areas are open until 6am and, for legal reasons, children are not permitted inside the building.

Manchester's 'Curry Mile' is known around the country, and is home to more than seventy restaurants and takeaways. Shaandaar, Hanaan and Lal Haweli are popular Indian restaurants on 'the mile', and Saki Turkish Bar and Grill is well loved by locals.

Pubs/Bars

The Arndale Centre comprises 200 high street shops and several restaurants, with parking for 2000 cars.

Covering an area the size of thirty football pitches, and comprising four separate shopping areas, the Trafford Centre has been dubbed 'a temple to consumerism'. There is parking for 10,000 cars, numerous leisure facilities and a children's play area. There is also a multi-kiosk food hall, including a mini-Chinatown.

Things to do in Leeds

Leeds is a city in West Yorkshire, with a population of just under half a million people.

The city has been dubbed 'the Knightsbridge of the north' for its array of 1000 shops and 5 shopping centres. There are fine dining restaurants, super clubs, masses of live music venues and numerous upmarket cocktail bars, generating a busy, modern city atmosphere.

Leeds's cultural venues and spaces are also incredibly impressive and still being improved, with a large civic museum of social history planned for 2008.

Amongst other regeneration plans are the development of the tallest building outside of London, renovation of some of the city's historical landmarks and creation of a new shopping area in the city centre. This is evidence, if more were needed, that Leeds certainly deserves its title as the fastest growing city in the UK.

History

Leeds was mentioned in the Doomsday Book of 1086, and was already a busy merchant town at the start of the Industrial Revolution. Leeds's population was 150,000 by the middle of the nineteenth-century and the coal industry became the city's most important employer.

The Royal Armouries Museum contains a collection of arms and armour, formerly held in the Tower of London. The Thackray Medical Museum is the largest medical museum in the country and explores the social impact of medical developments through the ages. The Leeds City Museum will open in 2008, covering four floors and exploring social history.

Leeds has more listed buildings than York, and 58 scheduled ancient monuments. Important historical buildings in the city include the eighth century Ledsham Church, and the twelfth century Kirkstall Abbey.

Art Galleries

Leeds Art Gallery is home to, what The Times described as, "the best collection of twentieth century art outside London". The permanent collections include prints, watercolours, Pre-Raphaelite paintings and modern sculpture. The gallery will be closed until May 2007 for refurbishment and extensions.

The Leeds University Gallery displays works from the seventeenth century up to the present day, including paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, ceramics and photographs.

Artco is a private gallery, showcasing contemporary paintings by local, national and international artists, with new exhibitions every three weeks. Original art is also for sale, and there are interest-free loans available.

Theatres

The West Yorkshire Playhouse has won numerous awards, and – comprising The Quarry Theatre and The Courtyard Theatre – is officially the largest theatre outside of London and Stratford. The theatre hosts around 1000 events and performances every year, including sixteen productions by its in-house theatre company.

The Leeds Grand Theatre and Opera House seats 1550 people, and has been open since 1878. Large-scale touring productions, stand-up comedians and live music are hosted in the Victorian Gothic auditorium.

The City Varieties Music Hall has a capacity of 531, and hosts small-scale productions, stand-up comedy and live music.

Restaurants

The Box Tree Restaurant holds a Michelin star, three AA rosettes and was awarded 'County of Restaurant of the Year' by Good Food Guide. The restaurant serves contemporary-influenced, traditional French dishes and an extensive selection of wine.

Fuji Hiro is a popular Chinese and Japanese restaurant that has received glowing reviews from publications such as The Observer. The food is high quality, and the atmosphere relaxed.

Anthony's specialises in experimental and contemporary European cuisine, prepared by an award-winning chef, using 'molecular gastronomy'. The restaurant was also awarded 'Best New Restaurant' at the 2004 Remy Awards.

Bryan's is a recently refurbished seafood restaurant a few miles out of the city centre.

Pubs/Bars

Leeds is packed with pubs to suit all tastes and budgets. Prohibition is a cocktail bar, with a variety of 145 on offer, and a 2am-license on Fridays and Saturdays. Another bar popular with young professionals is Normans Bar, with 100 different spirits and cocktails, unisex toilets and stylish-kitsch décor; the bar has received glowing reviews in Europe and Japan.

The New Penny is a gay bar close by, with live music and resident DJs, and a 4am license on Fridays and Saturdays.

Joseph's Well is another pub and live music venue, specialising in indie, rock, punk, metal and other alternative music, and has played hosts to bands such as Kaiser Chiefs and The Killers. Food is served during the day, and there is a 2am license on Fridays and Saturdays.

Leeds CAMRA named the 200-year old pub, The Scarborough, 'Pub of the Year' in 2006.

Nightclubs

My House is one of 150 clubs in Leeds, and comprises three floors and a garden area. The club presents house music over two floors, with a chillout space upstairs.

The Space has two rooms, and presents funky house, hard house, drum'n'bass and garage.

Club Mission is the city's most popular gay club, offering cheesy dance, Euro mixes, pop and indie. The club holds 1500 people and boasts state of the art lighting and sound systems, and a VIP lounge, with table service, on the top floor.

The Brudenell Social Club is a club and live music venue, hosting rock and alternative bands. Previous acts include Franz Ferdinand and Kaiser Chiefs, along with numerous local bands.

The Cockpit is also popular with rock bands, and presents live music and rock, metal and indie club nights.

The Corn Exchange contains a variety of shops, including Ark and Eva, and hosts art and music events.

Leeds Kirkgate Market is the second largest covered market in Europe.

The John Charles Centre for Sport comprises a gym and facilities for tennis, hockey, football, rugby, indoor bowling, athletics, badminton and table tennis. There are also three cafés located around the building. The Leeds International Pool is home to a 50-metre pool, diving pit, learner pool, aerobics studio and gymnasium.

Xscape was awarded 'Best Tourism Experience' by the UK Tourist Board in 2005, and comprises a real snow slope, the tallest indoor ice climbing walls in Europe, two rock climbing walls, an aerial assault course, an indoor skateboard park, Laserzone, dodgems and ten-pin bowling facilities. There is also a multi-screen cinema, a gym, twenty bars and restaurants and ten shops.

There are four golf courses in Leeds that welcome non-members.

Dubai - The Owner Of Everything Money Can Buy

By 2007, UAE will own three of the most exclusivist and lavish hotels in the whole world: Burj al Arab in Dubai, Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi and Palm Trump, whose construction it’s ongoing on one of the three artificial palm-tree shaped islands in Dubai. As if it wasn’t enough, the number of Dubai apartments and villas is also planned to increase, to back up the current and future tourism industry boom.

Dubai managed to hit the jackpot by continually building more and more extravagant hotels, luxury malls and the three artificial islands that can be clearly seen from the plain with bear eyes. Till the end of 2010, the government’s ambitious plans project a triple number of visitors, due to the unique constructions designed for the nearby future: the highest building the world ever thought of, the first underwater hotel, a thematic park suggestively called Dubailand – which will cost approximately 3 million Euro – and the second collection of artificial islands counting 250 little islands displayed as a miniature map of our planet.

Just like the buyers of 100.000 Euro estimated watches, whose purpose is not to show the time, but the wealth of the owner, the customers of the luxury hotels are not in the quest of a place to sleep. The hotel becomes the genuine proof of their financial status. For instance, the exterior of Burj al Arab hotel leaves you with your mouth wide open. As for the interior, the opinions may vary. Some say that this is the most elegant and sumptuous hotel ever, while others consider it a golden kitsch. One thing is clear though: the services are impeccable and for the time being Burj al Arab – the Tower of Arabs – is the only seven stars awarded hotel in the world. The hotel standing on an artificial island 288 meters off the seashore inside waters has no rooms available, only one-floor apartments, each of them assisted by white gloved butlers, just like in movies. Almost everything inside the hotel is covered with gold, including the edge of the wall embedded TV sets. The only ‘disappointment’ is the normal five star hotel pool. Imagine that!

But three to five star hotels are not the only housing solution in Dubai. Dubai villas and Dubai apartments are alternative solutions provided by real estate agencies or private house owners, which can be found simply by logging on dubaiapartments.biz. There is a huge variety of Dubai apartments offered for both short term and long term rental. These fully self-contained and serviced apartments are perfect for tourists, singles or families. Dubai apartments offer the luxury and comfort of any of the Dubai legendary hotels but at a much lower price, which makes them affordable by others than CEOs or rich and famous holiday hunters. For groups of tourists, Dubai villas provide a home-like comfort, designed to please anyone aware of fine living amenities. Dubai villas are located in the vicinity of top malls, financial or cultural areas, by the seaside or more inland, depending on one’s preferences and financial feasibility. No matter if you decide for luxurious Dubai villas or you choose the comfort of Dubai apartments, any of these are available sophisticatedly furnished, with leather sofas, plush bath towels and neat linens.

Dubai villas provide a higher degree of convenience and spare the tourists of the painful process of checking in or out. Moreover, if you miss your family, they can come and visit you on weekends, and there will still be plenty of room for everyone. Separate bedrooms offer privacy for parents as well as children. Most of the Dubai apartments include executive amenities that business travelers consider to be quite practical, such as high-speed internet access, free local calls and housekeeping services. For these reasons, many international companies book Dubai villas and Dubai apartments for their employees on business trips in the area.

Find Out why The Bahamas Should Be Your Next Vacation Destination

If you have not vacationed in the Bahamas, you are missing out on one of the best vacation destinations that could be chosen. The islands of the Bahamas have some major destination and tourist spots, which offer a traveler a unique vacation experience. Taking a vacation in the Bahamas is a dream come true for most people, whether business or pleasure or even a combination of those, and it does not need to be as expensive as you might think.

The two main islands are New Providence Island and Grand Bahama Island, although the smaller islands of Abacos, Acklins, Andros, The Berry Islands, Bimini, Cat Island, Eleuthera, The Exumas, Inagua, Mayaguana, and San Salvador also offer prime vacation spots. Crystal clear turquoise waters, endless white sand beaches, perfect temperate weather all add up to a vacation that is as good as it gets.

You can fly into the Bahamas via commercial airlines which is only a very short flight from Florida, or you can take a cruise to the Bahamas, where Nassau is a very popular cruise ship stopover with most of the major cruise ships. A passport and visa aren't usually required, but verify with your travel agent exactly what paperwork you should bring to stay out of trouble.

Your opportunities for relaxation are limited only by your imagination. If you like beaches, the sands of the beaches here are second to none, and end in the crystal aqua waters of the ocean. Sun bathers can always find a section of beach in which to gather some rays and enjoy some peace and quiet. If golf is your thing, the Bahamas offers several world-class golf courses. And if you need a bit of diversion, there are some casinos here that offer casino action and slot machines that are on a par with the best that would be found in Las Vegas.

You will find the locals are friendly and welcoming of visitors. The shopping along the main streets and shopping district offer many deals and unique items, many of which will not be found in your normal shopping centers back home. Language is not a problem here, since English is the language of choice in the Bahamas.

A discussion about the Bahamas would not be complete without mentioning the world-class resort of Atlantis. The Atlantis is a truly breath-taking resort and is also home to one of the largest casinos in the islands. The grounds of the Atlantis are impeccably kept with hardly a single blade of grass out of place. As a result of all of this, the Atlantis is home to many conferences and conventions, and can accommodate even large conferences of several thousand attendees.

If you have never been to the Bahamas, you owe it to yourself to visit there and experience it. If you have been there already, you already understand this, but there is almost certainly new aspects of the Bahamas that you have not yet experienced. Take the time to treat yourself to a Bahamas vacation, you will not regret it.

So You Want To Learn To Fly

The fascination with flying is nothing new. Since the ancient Greek myth of Daedalus and Icarus where each donned a pair of home made wings to fly away from Crete we have had a love affair with flying.

I don’t know about you but the idea of putting on a set of wings held together by wax doesn’t get me excited. In today’s world almost anyone can become a pilot and learn to fly, in this article we will take a closer look at what is required.

The basic requirements one must have prior to being able to hold a PPL or Private Pilot License is that you be 17 years of age although you may start flying earlier. The only restriction here is that you must be 16 before flying solo. There is also no specific educational requirement as the practice of piloting is based more on practical skills.

The first stage on the way to getting your PPL is the General Progress Flying Test or GFTP. This usually takes about 35 hours at which point you may take other people with you in a limited area. Next, you must complete around 20 hours of cross country navigation. To receive your PPL you must have a minimum of 40 hours flying time, three theory exams, and pass a flight test. In contrast a CPL (Commercial Pilot License), takes 150 hours, four theory exams, and two flight tests.

If you have designs to be a pilot another thing you need is patience. Obtaining a pilot license is not something that can be done in a matter of weeks. It takes about eighteen months to receive a PPL and at least two years for a commercial license.

Another thing you should know upfront is the cost. The cost for PPL training can be from $8-$10,000 depending on how long it takes you to learn. A CPL will cost you more like $40,000.

Generally, if at all possible you should treat learning to fly like you would obtaining a college degree. What I mean is that you should make it a priority and do it fulltime. This will make it much easier for you to learn and also give you much more flexibility on when you are able to fly, remember if the weather is bad you can’t fly.

If you are seeking to go further and get your CPL with the hopes of getting hired by a commercial airline you should be sure to include Mathematics, Physics, and English in your studies as these are the main areas of concern to the airlines.

Learning to fly is a rewarding endeavor so get out there and do it.

How To Spot Air Fare Deals That Rock Your World

If you are looking for air fare deals for your next vacation, there are several quarters to look at, one of them is your local travel agency, but the best option might just be a few mouse click away. It is the phenomenon called the Internet, and right now it is swarming with many travel websites that offers incredible air fare deals, in addition to hotel and resort lodgings.

If you visit www.expedia.com, travelvelocity.com, cheaptickets.com, and orbitz.com or sites of airlines that offer flights to your intended destination, you will find good air fare deals. Another way you can get a nice air fare deal to almost any destination is by checking priceline.com, but a condition is attached to this; your travel plans has to be flexible.

Your travel plans can sometimes depend on getting a good air fare deal. This is always the case with holiday trips or those that are organized at short notice. If you are traveling on a short notice, you can get a reasonable air fare deal due to the fact not all flight seats are occupied, the only problem you might face is that if you are traveling with a companion, both of you might have to sit separately.

To prevent this scenario, it is always best to be flexible with your travel plans, so as to benefit from great air fare deals. So never restrict your plan to specific dates and time of the year. If your travel plan is flexible, you will be able to get better air fare deals and save money in the process.

When you are arranging a summer vacation or weekend treats for yourself or family, spring is the best period to start planning for it, because many cheap air fare deals abounds at this time of the year on the Internet. This will probably save you the hassle of driving all the way to your destination, thus your timing for this has to be spot on.

When you plan early you can benefit from the several vacation packages including lodgings and air fare deals that are available during this period when business is normally dull. There is no doubt about it, cheap air fare deals abound for almost any destination, if only you look hard enough.

How To Find The Best Hotel Deals

For example, if the majority of facilities in a certain area book rooms at $100 a night and you can find one for $50 a night, do not be surprised if the towels are pretty worn through or the staff is slow at responding to your needs. With some hotel deals the free breakfast may be a three-day-old donut and yesterday’s coffee and while price may seem like a good deal, you will get what your pay for.

Many times, hotels with a higher visitor satisfaction rating may offer hotel deals when you stay a certain number of nights or book the room along with airline reservations giving you the opportunity to stay at a more luxurious location for a reduced rate. Having the amenities of a top of the line hotel for middle of the road prices will make those hotel deals that much better.

Keeps Eyes Open For Seasonal Specials

Frequently, hotel deals are available just before or after a holiday as hotels try to keep their revenue flow regardless of the season. However, if you are booking a room through a holiday, there may be a major price difference on specific days if they occur while an important event is going on. In a college town, for instance, the few days of the year when the students are coming to town with their parents and the rooms will all be booked, you probably will not be able to find any good hotel deals.

The same could be true in a resort area where more travelers are coming in for a holiday or special event. Hotel operators are going to keep their rates as high as the market will bear and hotel deals will be at a premium. You may not even be able to take advantage of special rewards during specific periods, as many places will have black out dates and only a certain number of rooms are available for hotel deals based on your rewards. Once those rooms are gone, the rates will not go down.

Cheap Hotels Can be Found

A cheap hotel is not necessarily a bad hotel, and sometimes a traveler can find a great bargain on a hotel that is one of the best in town. Many travelers get on a train, plane or bus for business, education or romance. Some people are great tourists who want to see as much of the world as possible. Most of the people in need of a hotel are looking for a comfortable place to stay while away from home. These people do not usually pick a hotel because it is expensive. They pick their hotel because they expect that it will have comfortable beds and good restaurants.

Almost everyone looks for a hotel that is reasonably priced, and most travelers are quite happy if they can find a cheap hotel. The number one reason that people pick a hotel is for cleanliness. They do not want to use a toilet that is not clean because other people that they do not know have used it. They want a hotel that has clean linens and carpeting on the floor. If travelers can find cheap hotels that are clean and tidy, the travelers will probably have a much better time on their trip.

Some Hotel Chains Are Known for their Cheap Hotels

Some hotel chains are successful because they provide cheap hotels that are clean and tidy. The travelers know the reputations of the hotel chains, and they tend to book rooms with a chain of hotels because they know that the prices are good and the places are clean. These chains that provide cheap hotels know that they will lose customers if people find out that they have dirty accommodations. The cheap hotel chains usually have a string of hotels across the country and around the world.

Travelers can stay at a cheap hotel from a certain chain in London or Los Angeles. They know that this chain of hotels has a reputation, and that they will probably live up to this reputation whether the hotel is in Paris or Phoenix. The cheap hotels are usually quite comfortable although they are not luxurious. The hotels have beds that are comfortable and restaurants with great food. Cheap hotels can be booked through a travel agency. There are several online services that can provide rates from several cheap hotels in one city for comparison. These services often have accurate photos of the facilities on the website.

Four-star Gourmet Food In Paris

If there's one thing the French know how to do well, it's food. Food is more of an art (and for some, a quasi religion) in France, and so I knew I would be remiss in my duties to readers of paris-eiffel-tower-news.com if I did not go and seek out Paris's finest gastronomic glories for you. Sampling the following is not an option – it's a must!!!

Real French Bread

In France, almost anyone will tell you that Poilane bread is the pinnacle of Parisian baking. First established 75 years ago, Poilane is now run by Lionel Poilane, who took over the business from his father about 30 years ago and boomed it: the shop sells 15,000 loaves of bread each day, i.e. 2.5% of all bread sold in Paris, by weight.

The secret of Poilane bread is steeped in tradition. Lionel himself conducted an extensive research project on the 'ethnography', as he put it himself, of his craft. Poilane bread is made from wheat grown only on farms employing sustainable techniques with sea salt from the French Atlantic Coast. It's baked for over an hour in Poilane's specially designed wood-burning ovens, and will easily keep for a week in its original white and green paper bag.

Poilane bread traces its heritage back to the genuine regional French bread, but the business is remarkably modern. Today, the family manages a new shop in London and a 'manufacture' on the outskirts of Paris producing the goods that are sold in more than 2,500 restaurants and shops in Paris alone, and about 20 countries around the world. Poilane is one of the few 'global bakers' today, taking advantage of the Internet and the large FedEx hub near the Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport to ship the bread worldwide. The goods land on dinner tables within 48 hours of their cooking.

The bread itself is decidedly old school: thick, chewy, and rich with a dark, fire-tinged flavor. Traditional French bread is not the ubiquitous white bread used in baguettes. It used to be a dark, wholesome stuff eaten by poor people when they could not afford anything else. It almost disappeared from French tables because of its very history. So much so that the old saying "He ate his white bread..." means that he mused and fooled around instead of working diligently, and now he's in for hard times (and only dark bread).

After World War II, the height of chic was white bread, imported from Austria. Poilane is very unique in that in a city where you can't walk two blocks without running into a baguette, he refuses to produce any!

Poilane's bread has won him famous fans over the years: Frank Sinatra and Lauren Bacall used to enjoy a loaf from time to time, and Robert De Niro is a customer.

There's one person in the shop who speaks English, who confirmed taking bread back to the US is no problem.

Poilane's famous bread can be found at 8, rue Cherche Midi, 75006 Paris. The closest metro station is Sevres-Babylone.

Go Organic Parisian Style

Paris is renowned for its local street food markets, which can be found in nearly every one if its quartiers (districts). The Rue Cler market is a very famous one, the Rue de Levis is another one almost as famous. The wonderful symbiosis of 'traditional and parochial' with the 'grand and capital' undoubtedly lends Paris its unique character.

Personally, Parisian street markets appeal to me because they offer a rare respite from the bland, cookie-cut supermarket retail experience and because, just like the proverbial box of chocolates in Forest Gump, 'you never know what you're gonna get'. Not only do I always seem to discover something I never even knew existed, but the quality and freshness of the produce is high and the whole experience in general is less clinical and more... well, fun.

Parisian open street markets usually operate off touristy alleys and are held either on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. The stalls get set up early in the morning, and the end-of-day sales begin in the early afternoon, although timing really does vary from one market to the other so I recommend doing your homework, and checking the schedules published by the city hall of the local district.

Of all of them, the organic Marché de Raspail is probably my favorite. It is held on Sunday mornings from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm on the center divider along Boulevard Raspail, between Rue de Rennes and Rue du Cherche Midi (stop off at the Sèvres Babylone metro station).

The Sunday Marché de Raspail caters only to organic ('biologique' or 'bio') food, and many of its products are just a cut above the rest. Indeed, French fresh produce are renowned, and I must say that every time I come back to Paris, I'm quite baffled to find that I actually forgot what a real cucumber tastes like...

The market's stalls number about 100 and are spread out over 200 yards, and they are run by anybody and everybody – from organic producers to various resellers, and some pretty interesting characters!

They sell just about anything that's organic. I walked away smugly with some very rustic lavender honey, loads of cheese and a delicious organic chicken that was roasted before my very eyes...

The service is usually very friendly. You will appreciate the way French vendors actually bother to ask when you actually plan to eat their produce. They can select it for you accordingly (i.e. so that it ripens neither too early, nor too late).

All in all, a healthy treasure trove, well worth getting up early for on a Sunday morning – even if only for an education in what fresh fruits and veggies are actually supposed to taste like...

The Raspail non-organic market runs on Tuesdays and Fridays, between 7:00 am and 2:30 pm.

Once again, the Marché Raspail can be found in the 6th quarter, on the corner of Boulevard Raspail and Rue de Rennes. Closest metro station: Sèvres Babylone.

Fashion For Cruises

No, I am not going to discuss Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' fashion sense. Going on cruises -- you know, aboard a ship -- is more than just a vacation. This is a time when dressing up is a must especially in the main dining hall and night socials. Though many cruise ships have loosened their dress code policies, there are still premier lines that keep the old dressing up traditions. It is a good thing, too, because most people who go on cruises are people who want to break the monotony of their lives. Dressing up gives them an opportunity to break from their routine and lets them get the most from their cruise vacation. Dressing up is not really a problem, it is the packing that frustrates many. By many, I mean us, women.

How many times have you tried to shut and zip up an overflowing suitcase only to be denied at the port or airport because your luggage is at least 20 pounds overweight? Dressing up on cruise does not mean that you have to pack your whole wardrobe. Cruise fashion means smart and practical packing. Being stressed out because of too much luggage makes us look haggard even in our best evening dress. Before you pack, it is important to be familiar about your cruise's itinerary. This gives you a general idea what clothes, accessories, and shoes to pack. Since the itinerary and dress code of the cruise is usually printed with the brochure, you should have no problem with this. If you like to be sure, call the travel agency that promotes the cruise. In general, cruises often require that you attend three kinds of activities: a formal social, smart casual affair, and a casual/sporty activity.

Since you won't be spending the day locked up in your cabin, remember to pack good day wear aside from your stilettos. Day wear can mean anything from swimsuits, shorts, t-shirts, and jeans depending on wear you are going. Bahamas cruises certainly merit good swimsuits, sarongs, and other breezy wear. If you are thinking of a Scandinavian tour, hiking boots, jackets, hiking clothes, and gloves are must-haves. Bring sweatshirts, wraps, or lightweight windbreakers for sudden changes in temperatures.

Night time aboard on the ship usually involves socials that require dressing up. If your itinerary specifies several strictly formal events, just bring a formal dress or two and key pieces of jewelry. There are dresses that are designed to function in multiple ways: asymmetrical, tube, halter, or with straps. You could buy and pack one of these and save on luggage space. Your staple black dress is fine as long as you change the accessories that go with it. Wraps, shawls, earrings, and necklaces are good additions to your outfit. If you prefer pantsuits, bring a pair of versatile dress slacks and several tops to go with it. Cruise Diva editor Linda Coffman actually advises concentrating on the waist up. People hardly notice what pants or shoes you wear as long as they notice change on your tops and accessories.

Follow the two principles of packing and you'll never be wrong: function and fashion. More than how you look, your enjoyment is a more important aspect of going on cruises. By packing smart, you will still have room for souvenirs without going overweight and having to pay extra charges. Packing for cruises is a chore, but if you pay attention to the details, you can pack your cares away.

Cruise Ships

With the holidays coming, one of the ways to do some bonding time with the family is to go on a cruise and travel to different parts of the globe. This is actually one of the easiest ways to travel because, the boat will be the one who will take you to your destination, port by port.

Often, cruise ships have tour packages that can will already make you an itinerary. Every stop will already be filled with enough sightseeing to last you a lifetime. You don't really have to plan your hotel accommodations and your land transportation. Everything is already taken cared of, all you have to do is to just pay the tour package price and sail away.

Below are some of the things that you should think about when you go on a tour.

Sea sickness

Before buying that ticket to a cruise ship make sure that you or any of the members of your family are not seasick. Otherwise, a heavenly trip can turn quickly to nightmare when the retching comes into play.

Often, those who do not travel well in bus on long trips will also find it hard to cruise on a ship. There are medicines that can ease the dizziness and the retching but of course, it can still ruin the whole atmosphere.

If you do not know whether you will experience seasickness or not, better ask the cruise ship administration if they have special money-back arrangements for those who do have before you purchase the ticket.

Safety

Another consideration that you should think about is the weather condition when you go on a cruise. As much as possible avoid the months when there will be typhoons. This is especially true when you are traveling to the tropical Asian countries where the weather can be really unpredictable.

Another safety issue that you should consider is the cruise ship itself. Is the company reliable? Has the company been involved in any boating accidents in the previous years? Research first and then choose the best and the safest way to travel.

Clothes

Depending on where you are going, it is a good thing to ask the cruise ship administration advice on what to pack when you go on the cruise. For instance, when going to a cruise in the Bahamas or any of the Carribean islands, you will for sure have to pack a bikini and other summer outfits. A tour on the Alaskan regions will necessitate some form of winter wear, sweaters, jackets, the works!

It also important that you pack the right kind of shoes. Often, a good old pair of walking shoes and rubber shoes will not fail you. Still, everything really depends where you are going and when. if you are not familiar with the weather, ask around.

Activities

Although most of the sight seeing stuff will already be provided for you, it is still good to do some research and asking on the side on what little else you can do. There are some cruise ships that dock on one area for days and leave the passengers to organize their own tours.

If that is the case, better ask the cruise company or do some surfing on the net on the other activities and places that you can visit that are not part of your official itinerary.

Don't Rush Into Airline Reservations

Whenever you get the time and money to take a special trip, you should not rush into the details of planning and make a mistake. Rather, you should absolutely take your time and plan your trip wisely and with care. One of the biggest mistakes that I have seen many people do over and over when planning a trip is to rush into making their airline reservations.

Naturally, when people first get excited about a trip, they start thinking about how they are going to get from here to there. They start looking to book airline reservations before it is time. All too often people rush into airline reservations and then wind up with plane tickets that they paid way too much for and they end up without any other details of the trip planned.

As a former travel agent, believe me when I say that I have seen these mistakes too often. One of my biggest warnings to potential travelers is to take their time and think through the details of their trip before booking airline reservations. many other details of a trip can be cancelled or changed, but airline reservations are often permanent once made or very costly to change.

Take time to look for potential places to stay and for activities to enjoy in a certain location before you make airline reservations. You never want to make airline reservations and then wind up in a boring location or in a spot without a hotel room. This just takes a little planning and a little patience.

Another huge reason why I caution people against jumping into airline reservations is that often novice travelers have no real idea where to look for good deals. Take your time and do a vast search of prices before making any airline reservations. Do not jump into the first offer that you see, but take your time and compare offers that are given. You can book airline reservations over the phone, through a travel agent, or online. So take time and do a search well.

I love nothing more than to see people enjoy a great vacation. But I also love it when they have taken time to plan or get help planning a great trip. I love it when they have been patient and then discovered great airline reservations. So take my advice! Be patient, ask around to other travelers, and then proceed to making airline reservations with caution.

Cheap FlightsTo the USA

Whether you have a limited budget or simply want to get the best deal on a flight, traveling on cheap airlines can save you a bundle on airfares that you can apply to the rest of your vacation. Over the past few years, cheap airlines selling cheap tickets for cheap flights have proliferated -- and that's to your benefit.

More often than not, there's negligible difference between a coach seat on a cheap airline and one on the Big Six (American, United, Delta, Northwest, Continental, and US Airways) airlines. In some cases, flying a cheap airline -- at least one with leather seats, free personal satellite TV, and other perks -- is superior to what huge airline corporations offer. When searching for dirt cheap airfares, check the Web sites of low-priced airlines. Some, like Southwest, only sell tickets on their own site. Others offer the best deals to their own customers. And if you buy directly from a cheap airline site, you'll avoid paying the small extra transaction fee sites such as Orbitz charge.

Top Cheap Airlines to US Cities

JetBlue. When JetBlue took to the skies in 2000, no one expected the airline, with its cheap fares between New York and Florida, to make much of an impact. After flyers experienced JetBlue's easy online ticket-buying technology, Airbus A320s, egalitarian single-class system, leather seats, free satellite TV in every seatback, pleasant flight attendants, and cheap ticket prices, they started switching allegiance over to the airline. JetBlue has piled up awards, including Best US Airline, Best Domestic Airline, Best Budget Airline, and Best Value for Cost from a slew of trustworthy sources. With more and more converts, this cheap but hip airline continues to grow. As of March 2006, JetBlue flies to 35 cities, including Las Vegas, West Palm Beach, Nassau in the Bahamas, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Southwest. Deep discounts on advance purchases are typical, which is helpful to those planning a long-distance wedding that requires many guests to come from other parts of the country. When the airline has one of its frequent fare sales, the normally cheap prices drop even more. Southwest flies to 63 cities in 31 states. New Southwest planes offer leather seats. However, seat numbers are not assigned by the airline. At check-in you get an un-numbered boarding pass and are welcome to take any free seat.

Spirit Air. Spirit Air flies to 29 destinations. What's different about Spirit Air is that it has two in-cabin classes -- and it's very cheap to upgrade to Spirit Plus, which offers leather seats that are somewhat roomier than coach, with more leg room, free drinks, and an odd, salty snack (who voted on feeding passengers beef jerky and cheese sauce?). Still, even cheap skates and couples on a tight budget like to enjoy the luxury of traveling in first class once in a while. Spirit's inexpensive upgrades ($30-50) are sold online and at the gate when available.

Delta's Song and United's Ted are designed as cheap but fun spin-offs of their parent airlines.

AirTran Airways. It flies to 54 destinations and has Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport as its hub. Its new Boeing 737-700s feature XM Satellite Radio with more than 100 digital channels.

Frontier Airlines . It has Denver as its hub and flies to 48 destinations in 29 state plus five cities in Mexico. In-cabin satellite TV carries 25 channels.

Kids In Cars: Surviving The Road Trip

Taking a road trip over the river and through the woods can be a great family holiday provided your kids remain busy in the car. So, it's best to pack loads of games and activities to keep your children entertained.

While going for a road trip take an account of the motion sickness as it is painful to go through a ride suffering from it. In case you have already experienced it then it is advisable to contact a physician who will be able to help you in treating this. There are certain medicines such as Dramamine that help in the treatment of motion sickness. Carrying munchies and light refreshment can be of help in treating the queasy stomachs.

You may not be able to find kid friendly food on the road. So, pack your own food to avoid relying on greasy, unhealthy fast food or sugary snacks that will make your children hyper. It's best to pack natural, healthy items like trail mix, granola bars, or fruit. Avoid packing foods that are difficult to eat or need preparation before consuming. Also, carry some extra items like silverware and napkins in your bag.

If you can ride and read without becoming ill, consider bringing your child’s favorite books with you. Reading aloud is an excellent way to pass time and provide quality entertainment. Consider reading books that will incorporate your child’s education with the trip. Also, bring books about your final destination. Learning about your end destination will create interest with every in the car.

Many individuals cannot ride in cars and read a book. For that reason, bring along a book on tape or CD. This eliminates any arguments regarding differing musical tastes. A wide variety of books are available as audio books, many of which are read by favorite actors or the author his or herself.

It's a good idea to purchase a small toy or game for your child if you're going on a very long trip. Consider things like traveling puzzles, activity or coloring books, or small toys your child can easily play with while in the car. Children enjoy playing with paper dolls, matchbox cars and small action figures. However, don't buy large and cumbersome toys.

Consider investing in a portable television or DVD player for your road trip. This item has dropped dramatically in price from the early days, allowing you to pick one up for under one hundred dollars. If your budget does not allow purchase, consider borrowing a portable model from a friend, neighbor, or family member. Encourage your children to pick out favorite movies or television shows for the trip. Allowing everyone their own choice of entertainment will eliminate arguing later on during the trip.

Keep the attention of your kid engrossed in one activity or the other. There are certain games that are going to be winners hand down with the kids, and one such game is the license plate bing-o. Playing games is one great way to keep everyone entertained during the trip.
